Striking and Sinister
These book covers are meant to portray the tragic and sinister nature of many of Shakespeare’s works. The square grid tells the story of each play in a subtle way. Macbeth is a story of darkness slowly spreading through a kingdom but that begins with one man’s greed. Romeo and Juliet is the story of two lovers who come from enemy families and can never truly reconcile it. Hamlet is a story of the inner darkness that eats at him as well as the darkness infesting the kingdom from his uncle’s deeds. “There is something rotton in the state of Denmark.” The white and red of the squares makes small danish flags to nod to this quote in the design.
